Hetta & Ron Webster from Lake Brenton at Knysna are seasoned Scarab traders – they have been trading at the market for the past ten years.
Both Hetta and Ron pursued different careers in Johannesburg before they became semi-retired and were lured to the Garden Route and Scarab Saturday Craft Market.
In Johannesburg, Hetta was a group buyer for a large company with 5 factories. Being small of statue, it was difficult to find outfits that fitted her. "Being in a managerial position I had to be well-dressed at all times. So I took lessons in dress-making and made my own outfits. With this background the clothes on our Just U stand are of high quality and we are proud of them” says Hetta.
Ron on the other hand was a sound engineer, specialising in International Conferences before retiring to Lake Brenton in 1995 where they had bought a holiday home some years before.
“Initially, Hetta took up a position at a finance company in Knysna until it moved to East London. Then to fill in time she started embroidering “fun sayings” on aprons as Christmas gifts for our family and friends. One day a friend who was selling his own products at the Craft Market asked us to put some aprons on his stand for him to sell. That’s where it all started”.
Later we also joined the Craft Market and sold our own products. The next product was a pair of non crease, non iron, drip dry pants that Hetta had developed until she was happy with them.
Soon these pants became a popular item on our stall.
As Ron says, "When a lady buys a pair of Hetta's JUST U pants, they always come back for more because as they all say ‘They are just so comfortable, non-crease and drip dry.’ ”
“Our product range soon expanded and we now make unisex Polo fleece Jackets and Body warmers (sleeveless jackets)”.
