Food has always been a passion for Ryan and Didi François who run Café François - one of the permanent tenants at Scarab Village. This passion is evident from the French-Moroccan bistro-style breakfasts, lunches and brunches served here on the wooden outdoor deck or inside.

Like many local residents of Sedgefield and the surrounding area, Ryan and Didi pulled up their roots in Johannesburg where he was a photographer and desktop publisher and Didi a teacher, to settle with their children Oliver (5) and Ruben (2) on the Garden Route.

“We always had large dinner parties at home,” says Ryan. After a brief stint at managing the events venue Beyond The Moon near Hoekwil, Ryan and Didi started Café François with the support of Ailsa, Didi’s mother.

Ryan believes in using the freshest products available in his restaurant - his fruit and vegetables, meat, chicken and eggs come from local producers.

Café François serves a mean cappuccino, macchiato or espresso, using some of the finest blends of Puro coffee from the Miko family. (And every cup of Puro coffee bought puts a contribution in the pockets of the World Land Trust that works for the protection of rain forests in South America.)

Mixed with mouthwatering dishes such as Roast Hubbard Tart and Smoked Chicken Salad are South African favourites like a snoek paté served with homemade bread and salad on the menu.
